Just how I like my art––creepy and amazing
Since 1997 Brazilian artist Andre Muniz Gonzaga has been turning haphazard, porous, or cracked surfaces into bizarre, misshapen faces in his unique style of street art portraiture. His site-specific paintings have appeared around the world this year in places like Senegal, Portugal, Berlin, Amsterdam and of course his native Brazil.

I suppose it was foolish of me to think, when I purchased my ticket to the RAW Artist Showcase, that I would have a few drinks with friends, look at art, and leave happily buzzed but empty-handed. Well… I did go home buzzed.
My big purchase of the night was “For You! Love, Kitty” by Christy Grace. Not only is the artist the dearest person ever, her style is right up my alley: colorful and whimsical, with a healthy dose of dark humor. She must have also felt we were kindred spirits because she gave me “Cupcake Alien”, saying she “wanted it to go to a good home.” The art gods smiled on me a second time when artist Tay Jones took a liking to my friend Molly and I, and sent us home with prints of his amazingly detailed ink illustrations!
Finally, representing the category of “Art Lusted After, but Not Purchased Due to Budgetary Restrictions,” is a Bateman-eque bunny by Dave Finocchino. I thought it’d look well hanging above my cutlery collection.
