I must have a different perception of neighborhood safety than the average Chicagoan. This was the type of thing people said about my old ‘hood too. Four years in Pilsen and I never even got so much as a threatening heckle.

I suppose it was foolish of me to think, when I purchased my ticket to the RAW Artist Showcase, that I would have a few drinks with friends, look at art, and leave happily buzzed but empty-handed. Well… I did go home buzzed.
My big purchase of the night was “For You! Love, Kitty” by Christy Grace. Not only is the artist the dearest person ever, her style is right up my alley: colorful and whimsical, with a healthy dose of dark humor. She must have also felt we were kindred spirits because she gave me “Cupcake Alien”, saying she “wanted it to go to a good home.” The art gods smiled on me a second time when artist Tay Jones took a liking to my friend Molly and I, and sent us home with prints of his amazingly detailed ink illustrations!
Finally, representing the category of “Art Lusted After, but Not Purchased Due to Budgetary Restrictions,” is a Bateman-eque bunny by Dave Finocchino. I thought it’d look well hanging above my cutlery collection.
There is live jazz drifting in my open window from the italian restaurant across the street. And I am very okay with this.
Today my office is Caribou Coffee.
Just added to my Etsy shop: 1950s Saks Fifth Avenue dress!
This is part of a series of small, mixed-media paintings called Loteria by Chicago artist Alma Dominguez that I spotted recently in my favorite Pilsen cafe, Efebina’s.
I fell in love with “La Chalupa” (48) immediately. The picture I’ve posted here doesn’t really do it much justice, but it’s utterly outstanding in person. I’ve emailed the artist about it, so hopefully, it will soon be mine. ::Fingers crossed::
Super cool. This kind of reminds me of a wooden bench version of the chairs at Joy Yee on Halsted. Anyone know what I’m talking about? Chicago people?

Home sweet home.

Someone took it upon themselves to beautify the abandoned retail space below my apartment.
Another fabulous Chicago-based Etsy store. I really need to get my Mum to teach me how to reupholster.
